The "Lifespan" visualization represents the maximum longevity of multiple species, as documented by James R. Carey and Debra S. Judge in their book "Longevity Records: Life Spans of Mammals, Birds, Amphibians, Reptiles, and Fish", published online by the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research. Of the around 4000 records in the book, only the 200 most popular species are shown here.

For each species, only its maximum achieved age is shown, either in the wild on in captivity.
